What To Bring To Your Appointment
We will prepare your federal and state individual income tax returns from information
you furnish us. We will not audit or otherwise verify the data you submit, although we
may ask you to clarify some of the information. We will furnish you with the
questionnaires to help you gather and organize the necessary information for us.
To ensure that we have everything we need to process your tax return quickly, make
sure that you bring EVERYTHING THAT APPLIES to your situation:
- If you are a new client and have never filed your taxes with us before then
we would like to see your last year income tax return.
- Social Security Cards and Birth Certificates for all dependents
- W-2 Forms for wages
- 1099 Forms for interest, dividends, retirement, Social Security,
unemployment, & other income
- Form 1099K for payments accepted through payment apps or online
marketplaces
- Year end statements from mutual funds and trader companies
- K-1 Forms from partnerships, corporations, & estates
- Rental or Self employment income and expense
Every self-employed person should be ready to present the records of income and
expenses, bank and credit card statements.
If your individual return includes business activities, please note that the documentation
should include but not limited to the auto, travel, and related expenses. If you have any
questions as to the type of records required, please ask us for advice in that regard. As
a general rule, you should keep records of your transactions – payments, purchases,
etc. We are not responsible for the disallowance of doubtful deductions or inadequately
supported documentation, nor for resulting taxes, penalties, and interest.
- Purchase and sale information for anything sold during the year
- All other statements of income
- IRA year end statements
- Medical expenses
- Records of estimated taxes paid
- Property tax statements
- 1098 Forms for mortgage or student loan interest
- Required documents to support charitable contributions:
- Donations of money to charity
- Donations of property to charity
- Volunteer expenses and mileage
- Amounts paid for higher education
- Job related expenses
- Investment related expenses
- Child care provider’s name, address, Social Security number, and amount
paid
- If you think you are eligible to claim American Opportunity Tax Credit
(AOTC) for students who are enrolled or attending an eligible educational
institution you should have received a Form 1098-T from the institution. A
student may claim the AOTC only for qualified tuition and related expenses
actually paid during the calendar year. The credit can be claimed only if the
Form 1098-T is presented to us, or you have a proof of your payments to
the eligible educational institution. Therefore, you have to provide us with
the Form 1098-T and/or the proof of the payments at the time of your
appointment.
- If you think you are eligible to claim Earned income Credit (EIC) and Child
Tax Credit (CTC) /Additional Child Credit (ACTC) for a child – we should
have/keep copies of the following on file:
o Social Security Cards and Work Authorization (if applicable) for all
members of the family
o Proof of Residency for a child. These are the examples of the
documents you may bring as the proof. Bring at least one of the
following:
School records or statement
Landlord or a property management statement
Health care provider letter or statement
Medical records
Child care provider records
Social service records
Employer statement
Forms 1095-A, 1095-B, 1095-C
- If you have health insurance, please do not forget to bring one of the Forms
1095-A, 1095-B, 1095-C
